Set up Monday to Sheets

Install the add-on, connect your monday.com account, and get your first board into a spreadsheet.

Before you start

  • A Google account that can install add-ons on the spreadsheets you work in
  • A monday.com account that can see the boards you want to sync
  1. Install the add-on

Install Monday to Sheets from the Google Workspace Marketplace onto the Google account that owns your spreadsheets.

    • Open the Monday to Sheets listing in the Google Workspace Marketplace and click Install.
    • Pick the Google account you use for the spreadsheets you want monday.com data in.
    • Read the Google permissions and click Allow.

The add-on asks Google for 5 permissions. It needs the spreadsheets you open it in and monday.com's API to do the sync. Triggers run the scheduled syncs, and the sidebar permission shows the add-on. Your email address ties the add-on to your plan.

  2. Open the sidebar

Open Monday to Sheets from the side panel of the Google Sheet you want to sync into.

    • Open the Google Sheet that should hold your monday.com data, or create a new one.
    • Click the Monday to Sheets icon in the side panel down the right edge of the window. If the panel is collapsed, open it with the small arrow in the bottom right corner.
    • The connect card loads in the sidebar.

The add-on works in one spreadsheet at a time. Syncs you create here write to tabs in this file, and you can set up more syncs in any other spreadsheet from the same account.

  3. Connect your monday.com account

Accept the terms, then sign in to monday.com. There's no API token to copy.

    • Tick I accept the terms and conditions. The Terms and FAQ buttons above it open both pages.
    • Click Connect Monday.com. A monday.com window opens.
    • Sign in if you need to, and approve access.
    • Close the window. The sidebar reloads, connected.

The add-on sees the boards your monday.com user can see, and no others. A board shared with you later shows up the next time you open the board picker.

  4. Create your first sync

Pick a board, the columns you want, and how the sync should run.

    • Click New sync.
    • Under Pick what to sync, choose a workspace, then a board.
    • Leave the group empty to sync the whole board, or pick one group to sync only its items.
    • Under Columns, tick the columns you want in the sheet.
    • Set When to sync and Direction, then click Start sync.

    When to sync

    Manual sync
Runs when you tap Sync. All plans.
    Scheduled sync
Syncs automatically every 3 hours. Pro and Business.
    Live sync
Syncs within a few seconds of any change in monday.com. Business.

    Direction

    One-way
Read-only sync from monday.com to Sheets.
    Two-way sync
Edit items in Google Sheets and sync changes back to monday.com. Business.
  5. Read the synced sheet

A synced tab always has the same 3 rows at the top, and your data starts on row 3.

    • Row 1 is hidden and protected. It holds each column's type and monday.com column ID. A renamed column keeps its data because the add-on matches on that ID.
    • Row 2 is the label row, frozen at the top.
    • Row 3 onward is one row per item, with an item ID column and a link that opens the item in monday.com.

Add your own columns to the right of the synced ones. Their formulas carry through every sync.

  6. Change a sync later

Open a sync from Your syncs to change its schedule, direction, or columns.

    • Open the sync from Your syncs.
    • Change When to sync, Direction, or the column picker, then save.
    • Click Sync now to run it straight away.

If something goes wrong

One board's sync fails while the others work
Your sign-in is fine. The board's monday.com permissions don't include you. Ask the board owner to add you, then run the sync again.
The sidebar says your monday.com account changed
You connected a different monday.com account. Keep the syncs it can't see if you'll switch back, or remove them.
A scheduled sync stopped running on its own
Click Refresh scheduled syncs on the home card to run them all now. If it still doesn't run on its own after that, email us and we'll look at it with you.
Sync limit reached
Starter and the trial run up to 3 syncs. Delete one you no longer need, or move to Pro for unlimited syncs.
Syncing is paused on your plan
Your trial or subscription has ended. Your data stays in the sheet; pick a plan to resume.
